Toro Y Moi - “Tuesday”

The new Toro y Moi track, “Tuesday,” came out this week. (On tuesday.) It’s the lead single from “Hole Earth” which is slated for release this fall, and it was such a left turn from his latest stuff that on first listen, I almost mistook it for something off the new Charli album -- it’s totally awash with the little artifacts you might find in something from that PC music world, like the really processed baby-voice vocal thing that’s sprinkled throughout, and uses that same kind of euphoric tonality to maximum effect.

Right as I was listening for some sort of stamp of personality, some signature texture from the Toro y Moi canon, this really raw, live bassline crept in to kind of inject the whole thing with this jittery, band-at-a-house-show kind of feeling... Chaz’s vocals come in, in RARE form -- much more aggresive and raw than on most of his discography, which usually sports a vocal style that’s variably reserved, and nonchalant.

All in all, a cool track, and a promising snippet of the upcoming LP, where I hope he won’t pull any punches.
